Statement from Campaign for Children on Early Educator’s Labor Announcement

“Today’s agreement marks a historic accomplishment for every New Yorker who has supported the City’s ambitious vision for a birth to five early education system.
The Campaign for Children applauds leaders of DC 37, DC 1707, the Day Care Council, and the de Blasio administration for reaching a labor agreement that will achieve parity for certified teachers in the early education workforce, and will provide significant increases to all staff at city-funded CBO programs.

The wage gap in the early education system has created significant challenges in staff retention and turnover for community based programs. We believe the agreement announced today will provide the early education workforce with the equity and stability needed to create a sustainable, high quality system and therefore also benefit children, families and communities.

We extend our special thanks to Speaker Corey Johnson and the members of the City Council, as well as the community based organizations and advocates in the early education sector who have been persistent champions for equal pay for equal work.”
