Kids and parents who depend on child-care programs that were on Mayor Bloomberg’s chopping block may have Hurricane Sandy to thank for keeping them alive.

After months of uncertainty, contracts for 24 Beacon programs at risk of shutting down or getting less funding have been extended for at least another year.
