Crain’s: Bloomberg’s budget

In presenting his 12th and final budget at City Hall, Mayor Michael Bloomberg outlined a $70.1 billion spending plan that neither raises taxes nor lays off city employees.
The budget does call for the closing of 20 firehouses and cuts to child care and after-school programs for 47,000 children. But it is likely those will be restored during negotiations with the City Council, as they were last year. “As we have said before, we are fully committed to protecting the essential services that New Yorkers depend on,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinnin a statement.
